New TV spots for Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)

Here we have some  TV spots for the next film in the Paranormal Activity franchise. These seem to have been thrown out a little to quickly, if you ask me.   PA3 releases October.

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)trailer

The first was a revolutionary film which had set the bar for Horror films of now. To have attained so much success on such a small budget was something that wasn't new, but when the budget is as low as it was, and having become both a critical and financial success, of course Paramount had to follow it up with Paranormal Activity 2. This, wasn't as good or as successful as it's predecessor. Well, only by a few thousand dollars. Or something. The third instalment looks to be a relatively intriguing concept; telling the story of how the demon came to be. With the guys behind the docu-weirdoawkwarddrama Catfish on board for this, it should be pretty cool. October, this will come. Kazed

Kieron's Review - Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)

Paranormal Activity 2 As an expert on the horror genre… no. As a horror film enthusiast...not quite. As a horror film fan…yes that’ll do. I recently went on a rarity these days. I went to the cinema to watch Paranormal Activity 2 and was bitterly, bitterly under-whelmed. Maybe it’s because I, like many others have been exposed to the high levels of violence, gore and unusual events of recent times and therefore acquired somewhat of a shock immunity and increased resistance to film like this. Or maybe, it was mainly because the film wasn’t very good. There were some good points of the film although the swimming pool cleaner wasn’t quite enough to deter me from the shamble’s that made up the rest of this jump-out-of-your-seat thriller/horror. A few of the jump moments did catch me out rather well, especially during the end however I felt that the overly loud thudding sound effects coupled with the under climatic results from the mysterious events were an all too familiar trait of an unconvincing scary movie. For example, yes, having the pan drop from its hanger in the middle of the night at first caught out most in the cinema when it first happened, but then it was followed up every five minutes or so with something else dropping, with the occasional door opening on its own for no reason flung into the mix. Before long I was finding it an effort to actually hype myself up to become scared, shocked or even intrigued. Thankfully there were a couple of spots that got me, though not so much the timing element than the action that took place such as the when a possessed Katie lunged towards Daniel in a crazed vampire-ish fashion. In all I’d class PA2 as not being a terrible film of its genre and perhaps even an acceptable form of what it was, when you think of other examples of shock horror. I’d be surprised if on first watching this you don’t get caught off guard at least once, however most of the jump scenes are weak and easily predictable, the characters although I felt seemed realistic as a family being filmed, were dull and even annoying at times and as a film… well, it seemed much more like a low budget ghost hunting documentary although its arguable that the director may have intended on it looking somewhat similar to that. Film- 6/10 Scare Factor- 7/10

Kazed's Top 10 of 2009

So as Movieville comes close to it's 4th month on the web, I'd like to extend my deepest thanks to all you people who supported us, and continue to do so through this difficult economic climate. Cough. Seriously though, thanks for all the hits, as we draw closer toward the end of 2009 and into 2010, I'd like to pick out my top 10 films of this year. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, it was a refreshing change of pace in terms of a romantic film. Sure, it followed the standard formula of the romance film but it wasn't a traditional 'fall-in-love-get-married-happily-ever-after' film, but more of a 'guy-with-powers-falls-in-love-gets-married-disappears-and-reappears-the-end' sort of film. See the review HERE I could've summed this film up in one word: cliché. I didn't though. I wrote a review for it. Right HERE I absolutely adored the concept to this film. Transferring one's entity into an artificial being. Sound familiar? Look at my number 1. Something different, definitely deserves to be in my top 10. Why? Read the REVIEW Zombieland was an innovative, refreshing film. There were a few downers, but nothing that brought the rest of the film down. Review HERE Another Tarantino classic, review from Dan HERE. No review for this, so here's a mini one. Good film, good plot, continuity was an exciting element, and something which appeals to me when done right. Good film, Sam Worthington was a great addition to the film, the CGI representation of T-101 was outstanding although a little over-the-top. 6.5/10 There were little flaws with District 9, but then ones that existed were nothing which ruined the overall presence of the film. An epic film. Review HERE Star Trek was one of the most amazing films to me of 2009, the visual effects, the cast, the soundtrack were easily the best things about this film. Review HERE Every so often, there's a film within the Horror genre which shocks or wows audiences. This was most definitely one of those films. Realism, fantastic visuals, were all solidified by this intense film. review HERE. Avatar. This is THE best film of 2009. For me, this is the most revolutionary and visually outstanding film I've ever witnessed. The exact reason why Avatar made it to the number one spot. The soundtrack, the epic CG were all contributing to this ground-breaking masterpiece. review HERE, breakdown HERE. There you have it folks, my top 10 for 2009. It's been a great year for film, and I expect big things for 2010 also. I've been Kazed, have a good Christmas, and a great New Year from all of us at Movieville. Kazed.

Paranormal Activity Review

Making a movie with $15,000 sounds pretty remarkable to me. A little while ago, I spoke about my love for Indie film, when the trailer for 'Afterschool' dropped. Paranormal Activity is a film which was given limited release, and is probably THE most impressive Horror film I have seen to date, given the circumstances it was filmed on;  $15,000 budget, 1 week to shoot, 2 years until it received critical acclaim. Putting all of that aside though, the film itself was a massive achievement. It contained the makings of an amazing film. Throughout the whole film,  there was never a moment I felt bored. Even during the parts when there was excessive dialogue, I still felt drawn to it, not necessarily to the dialogue itself, but to the way the characters were delivering it. It felt real, it didn't feel like a movie at all to me, it actually felt as though I was watching a documentary, an extended YouTube Vlog-No...Even a Vlog would be more exaggerated, this, was just...real. Not literally, of course, but it wasn't over dramatic, it wasn't theatrical. Now, the effects. Sure, they probably cost peanuts, but the way they were displayed, the way they were executed, and presented, were exceptional. Example 1- The swinging chandelier - Ok, so probably not the most creative effect, but, in the moment- the context in which it was presented, was creepy, and it worked, whether or not it was some dude pushing it before the camera got to it. Think about this, though. Your at home, you hear a noise(all the time keeping in mind you have a chandelier in the house), you run to see what it was, and the chandelier was swaying from side to side. That'd be freaky. See, now, the good thing about this was that it wasn't completely far-fetched, and it was a viable effect, and no doubt, didn't cost a billion dollar to shoot. Example 2, and the most puzzling for me - The leg pulling- Those of you who have seen this, will know what I'm referring to.  I think this was the most effective effect in the entire movie, and still don't know how it was done, I'm working on that, but I just felt it was just brilliant. The emotion that was conveyed by the couple felt so genuine, and it didn't even feel like I was watching a film, by that point in the movie, I was a bystander in their lives. Now the shots- Cloverfield did it, and I loved the concept of a hand-held camera being used for the entire movie.  Like I said before, it felt like I was watching a documentary, it was authentic, and I really bought the whole thing. Hell, I was watching it myself, and I didn't want to sleep after it. More so than any other Horror I've seen before. However, I will say that the end, well, it was pretty anti-climactic. Yeah, yeah, spoiler alert, who cares. So I get what happened, I just don't think it was cool by not telling us what happened afterwards. I did like the authenticity of the film; no credits, just a 'thank you' message to the local Police Department. Overall, good film, still not on the perfect side, I guess purely because of the end, that was a downer for me, but other than that, like I said before, still one of the best Horrors I've seen in a LONG time. 9.5/10 Kazed
