Muni Reviews: Bad Teacher(2011)

When I went to the cinema last week I was hoping to watch Bridesmaids but as it was sold out I decided to give Bad Teacher a go. When I saw the trailer there were some funny moments but it didn’t stand out to me even with a good-looking cast. Cameron Diaz plays Elizabeth Halsey who just after finishing her first year teaching middle school has to come back for year two when her rich fiancée dumps her for only marrying him for his money. She doesn’t like to teach the kids and makes them watch films in class all day, however when she hears that the best class gets a bonus she decides to cheat and win, and with the money get a boob job. The jokes are funny when they happen, the unfortunate thing is that as a comedy, it doesn’t deliver, I wasn’t constantly laughing, I chuckled here and there but it didn’t stand out as a comedy, which was a huge shame. Story aside, the characters were pretty dull and unoriginal, you can tell that the actors are trying hard to make the script and story work but with the characters being so two dimensional its very difficult. Justin Timberlake was good eye candy for the women, but brought a cringe worthy performance which I was upset about as I thought he did a great job in The Social Network. The only saving grace of the film is Jason Segel who is by far the best thing about the film.  The ending is also a better ending for these types of films, so credit to that. The directing is nothing new and fancy it is however simple and clean cut it works well and it looks like the director got what he needed from the people around him. It’s a shame he didn’t take a risk to create anything original shot wise and it looked pretty bland throughout. Finally the music and the soundtrack was your typical mix of indie pop rock songs and didn’t have an impact story wise or on the film. That’s not a bad thing but again like the film it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. Overall I’d say that if you want to watch this film wait until it comes on DVD or better still on TV, trust me your not missing out. It’s a wannabe comedy that falls short from coming together. Directing 6/10 Acting 4/10 Story 5/10 Music 5/10 Overall 5/10

Kazed reviews: Green Hornet (2011)

Synopsis: Following the death of his father, Britt Reid, heir to his father's large company, teams up with his late dad's assistant Kato to become a masked crime fighting team I like Seth Rogen. I do. I enjoy his exploits on the big screen. This wasn't an exception, but wasn't up to par with what I consider to be some of his best(Knocked Up, Superbad, Funny People). There were funny moments which occasionally made me chuckle, but these occasions were rare. I laughed about 4 times in during the film, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy the film. It just wasn't much of a "comedy". Rogen's performance was good as expected,  but ultimately it was the dialogue that failed him on this occasion. Although the actions scenes were quite well done, they weren't that impressive. It was all just too...flashy. The film itself was okay, but then, I wasn't expecting much. It had it's funny moments, had decent some decent action, but lacked in decent performances. Rogen delivered, Cameron Diaz was practically nonexistent to me in the film, her performance was forgettable, but Christoph Waltz overshadowed all in his portrayal of a crazy evil person guy. He can really sell the sinister thing, the way he can deliver his lines is really quite creepy. Great choice for a bad man though. 5.5/10 Kazed

Knight and Day (2010) review

Synopsis: June Havens finds her everyday life tangled with that of a secret agent who has realized he isn't supposed to survive his latest mission. As their campaign to stay alive stretches across the globe, they soon learn that all they can count on is each other I like Tom Cruise. I do. I think he's a cool guy. He's hip. He's now. He's effin' funny. Fun fact: He's also a scientologist. Wow. The dictionary on my computer doesn't even recognise how awesome that is. So Knight and Day. A fairly adequate 'action' film, I thoroughly enjoyed Cruise's performance, very quirky character, his coolness played a big part in this, he just oozes charisma. He does. A couple of times he oozed cliché, but that's to be expected when there's romance involved, the moment on the beach, for example. Wow. Yeah, let's just a grab a chick and pretend to rape her. Then let's teach her to defend herself. Love it. Diaz's performance was forgettable, to be honest, and keeping in mind that Eva Mendes was also in the running for the same role, doesn't surprise me, because the character wasn't the most original of characters. A chick who's into cars. Wow. THAT'S original. Still though, that's not to say I didn't enjoy the performance, I just don't think she was irreplaceable. An okay film, with some enjoyable moments, great visuals, hard not to enjoy the film with Mr Cruise. 6/10 Kazed
