Brooklyn's Finest (2010) review

Synopsis: Three unconnected Brooklyn cops wind up at the same deadly location after enduring vastly different career paths. This here is a film which bears striking similarities to Training Day, a film also directed by Antoine Fuqua. With three seperate-ish plot lines almost intertwining in the end, it was a subtler version of 2004's Crash (Review here). The 'stories' of each Police officer were each as intriguing as the last, but by the end of them all, I couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness. Sure, they had some exciting moments in each of them(Maybe with the exception of Richard Gere's story, it seemed to lack some of the energy the others did), but ultimately just seemed fall flat at each conclusion of the respective plot lines. Despite a few hitches during the story, it was an impressive film, and had all the positive elements that made Training Day the film that it was. Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle and Richard Gere were most definitely the highlights of this film, and made it worthwhile. Good film, despite some minor flaws, Brooklyn's Finest was a respectable 'action thriller'. 6.5/10 Kazed

Daybreakers review

Synopsis - As the excerpt indicated, it was very much an adult version of Twilight, just quite a bit more...adult. I've said before that I'm a fan of post-apocalyptic films (Book of Eli, Zombieland), and this one is added to the list, albeit quite dull and mundane, there were scenes within this film I quite enjoyed. The film had quite an interesting plot, and most of the time had my attention, but when the ridiculousness kicked in, it was all a little frustrating. The coincidences, the clichés were all too much for me to take in, the questions I had were countless, questions based on the amount of times I saw something absurd. "Why are they killing them if they so desperately need blood??" or "Why are they so effing stupid???" were questions which I asked myself numerous times. Despite being relatively interesting within the violence department, the ending and substandard effects really ruined it for me. Just an okay film, good cast, interesting concept which had potential, if a sequel does follow, it might make more sense. Hopefully it does. Gets a 6/10 from me. Kazed
