Lola Reviews: Captain America (2011)

I have to write a review about this movie, as I thought it was spectacular. I have seen however, that some others beg to differ (Kazed - grr) and I suppose in a way this could be seen as an argument for the movie, rather than a review. But who the hell cares, I'm going to do it anyway. This movie was always going to be a little bit awesome, just for the simple fact that it's about Captain America. He's awesome, he's american...and ladies, he's really sexy. Casting Chris Evans as Steve Rogers was a genius touch, as we see in the beginning of the movie he can look equally dorky as he can look majestic. Dorky Steve Rogers was brilliant. My sister watched the movie with me and until I pointed it out she had absolutely no idea that the body didn't belong to the actor. Awesome. I really liked the rest of the casting, especially Dominic Cooper playing Howard Stark (Swoon!). Hugo Weaving as Red Skull was a nice touch also, playing the villain role exceptionally well, as he usually does. The story itself was magic in that it was simply and brilliantly a comic book movie. It didn't try to stay within the limits of what people might conceive as believable, instead it was ridiculous and unbelievable, but also awesome - like every comic book is. I could go on about the movie, but I know i'm going to just blab on and on. Basically, it's a great comic book adaptation. And if you're still on a high from the Thor movie, make sure you stick around until the end for a super exciting teaser trailer.... 8/10 Ps Sorry for the excessive use of the word 'awesome', but once you see the movie i'm pretty sure it'll be the one word you use to describe it :) :)

Kazed Reviews: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Ahh. What to say about this film. Quite honestly, I had mixed feelings about this film, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, I knew how the origin story goes, and I knew how the film would end, but I just don't know why I wasn't impressed more than I thought I would be. Maybe I've been poisoned by DC, because I've been reading their comics too much recently, or maybe it's because I just didn't care about a Captain America film. It's weird, a few months ago, when the Cap trailer was released, it was kinda exciting, you know, how it usually is; seeing a comic-book character being translated onto the screen. But something just didn't feel right here. There were a lot of moments in the film that didn't feel right, like the scenes where Chris Evans' head was superimposed onto the smaller frame. It wasn't done good enough for me to be convinced it was 'real', if you will. Sometimes the actor's eyeline wasn't meeting the scrawny version of Steve Rogers' eyeline, and this really bothered me. Not only this, there were times when his head kept jittering, obviously the visual FX here wasn't up to par, but this would be a whole other thing, I'm not here to go technical on youse guys. Was it loyal to the source material? Well, after a read of the inspiration for the film, I suppose it was and wasn't; it wasn't meant to be a direct translation, but more of a story inspired by the source material. So for what it was, it was commendable. It's pacing was ever so slow at parts, and it just didn't feel like I was watching a comic-book adaptation. However, the on-screen version of Red Skull was pretty badass, so kudos to Hugo Weaving for his portrayal of the red-headed bad dude. Chris Evans, as usual, didn't disappoint in his role as the Captain of America, so I have no qualms about this. I don't want to sit here and go on and on about why the film was just okay, instead, I'll say that the traditional post-credits scene was probably one of the best so far, giving the viewers an exciting look at the upcoming Avengers flick. It's a teaser rather than the usual 60 second or so scene. Sigh. Nuff' said, Captain America had some cliched scenes, lines, shots, and a whole host of other crap. It's propaganda material forcing the USA down our throats left nothing to be admired, but what did I expect with a name like 'Captain America', right? I'm gonna break it down from now on, makes it easier for me to calculate the score, and it'll be out of 10, 1 being lowest, 10 being highest, duh. It'll be: performances, plot, visuals, dialogue, stupidity factor, and overall score. So - Performances: 6/10 Plot: 6/10 Visuals: 5/10 Dialogue: 5/10 Stupidity factor (The higher the score, the more stupid it was):  5/10 Overall (average): 5.5/10 Kazed.

Hugo (2011) gets a trailer!

Martin Scorsese' next film, 'Hugo' now has a trailer, but what do you think of it? it feels like a mixed up teaser trailer for a small indie film has been pushed through the system and ended up as an unfinished final trailer. Sasha Baron Cohen's character hardly amuses, and this trailer from the mastermind behind 'Taxi Driver' among others' feels like it's had a knock back before it's even had time to get going. Trailers cost a lot of money for studios, and when they're bad it is a shame, almost unintentionally casting a shadow over the film. A team in advertising has cleared this, and their work is a representation of a legend's latest film, so hopefully their edit of the footage for the trailer isn't a true to source piece, and this teaser is forgotten in due time.       It may sound like I'm being spiteful, but it is a set back, as I've personally been looking forward to the next film from one of my inspirations in life. It's Scorsese's first attempt in 3d, it's a child's Christmas film, and it's from the man who gave us the atmosphere in 'Gangs of New York', 'Raging Bull' and Goodfellas', This trailer just doesn't convey to me what I thought it would Hugo is set for a release this year on December 2nd in 3D and 2D. What do you think about the trailer?

Holy crap on a stick. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) FULL trailer

I don't think there's been another superhero film franchise as huge as the Spider-Man/X-Men films were/is. But this, this seems like something else. Behold, the new trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger. Wow. Yesterday, little snippets of the trailer were released up until this morning (UK time) when the full trailer was revealed (In huge-ass HD, I might add). I'm a little bit iffy on using Chris Evans' head on a CGI body, but then I think it may look unintentionally hilarious. It's a little too obvious for my liking, but I guess it was unavoidable. Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving looks positively badass, and can't wait to see how he looks in the whole costume. Captain America: The First Avenger is slated for a July 2011 release. Kazed.
