Muni Reviews: 30 Minutes or Less (2011)

So this weekend Kazed and me went down to London to the Empire Big Screen event, to see clips of films that haven’t been released yet, as well as watch two feature films: Cowboys & Aliens (which Kazed has reviewed), and 30 minutes or less. So the synopsis for this is pretty cool, two wannabe criminals (Danny McBride & Nick Swardson) kidnap and pizza delivery boy Nick (Eisenberg) strap a bomb to him and give him 10 hours to rob a bank or else they’ll blow him up. Nick goes to his best friend to help him get the money and save his life. So right off the bat I want to say this is quiet possibly the funniest film I’ve seen all year (still haven’t seen Bridesmaids, but think if I did it would still win.) Aziz Ansari (Parks & Recreation) is a breath of fresh air on screen, he is a natural comedian and has had cameos in Funny People and I Love You, Man; but this time around he’s in the entire film. I think he actually makes the film as funny as it is, the audience was in fits of laughter and it was justified.  Jesse Eisenberg after his critical and commercial success on The Social Network, made this film work, he plays a different character to what he’s played previously which also includes Zombieland and The Squid and the Whale, and I think he did a very good job, he was funny, charming, and very likeable on screen. McBride was not as funny as he could have been there were glimpses of moments where it was funny, I thought Swardson did a better job and was much funnier specially which the “that’s what she said” line at the end. The story is new and unique, as it hasn’t been done before. For me, it works. The film has a good flow and keeps the audience engaged as well as having an entertaining script with a lot of funny lines. For those who keep up with news and current affairs, would have read this film being slammed is recent weeks as it is similar to the real life horror of a man having a bomb strapped to him and he died. The story line for 30 minutes is different to the real life event and shouldn’t be interpreted as the same thing. The chemistry between the actors is amazing to watch on screen, you could tell that they had fun making this film, the characters were hilarious and story was very engaging. I honestly believe when this comes out that this is going to be a box office success, as well as be a critical success. I think Aziz Ansari is really funny and I’m glad an Indian guy has got a huge break as a leading man on screen, I believe he’s the stand out guy for me in the film and stole the screen every time he was on. He’s one to watch out for the future. Jesse does a superb job and thinks he made a wise choice making this film rather then a drama. Overall I’d say go watch this film. Seriously, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve read that it comes out in mid September in the UK, which isn’t a long time away but I feel privileged to have watched it so early. The acting is amazing and so is the story. 9/10

Trailer for 30 Minutes or Less(2011)

It's a little overdue, but seeing as Movieville is covering the film at the Empire Big Screen Event in London this Saturday, I figured before it's reviewed, may as well post a trailer which hasn't been done yet.   Hilarious. Hilarity. Funny. Thoughts, people?

The Social Network(2010) review

Synopsis: On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications. So, wow. Not how I thought it'd be, but still an impressive piece of work. Kudos, Fincher. Okay, so granted, it's a film, so understandably, there's gonna be some dramatic element to it in order to make the shit interesting. The performances were nothing short of astounding, Timberlake, Eisenberg, the twin douches, even that guy who plays Eduardo. You know, that guy who has a latino name but is clearly caucasian? Isn't that weird..? Now, after doing a little research, it turns out, that this film isn't the most accurate portrayal of 'the Facebook story'. It's been adapted from the book 'Accidental Billionaires', which is a tale about the culmination of Facebook, but funnily didn't include any contribution from Mr. Zuckerberg himself. Similarly, the film is "not how it went down", apparently. Anyways, moving away from reality, let's talk about the film. Visually, the film was stunning. It looked good, it felt good, it gave my eyes an orgasmic explosion of holy shit that's awesome. The camera work? - sweet. Compositional sweetness of shots? - Hot damn. The score used in the film was pretty shittin' sweet too, to be honest, never really gave NIN's stuff a good listen, but this sounded pretty damn badass. Yeah, there were a couple of times I thought it just didn't match the corresponding situation at the particular time, but it really did work, and gave it a edgy sound to it, really backed up the solid performances from the cast too. The plot I've touched on slightly, but really it made for a damn great film. The fact that it was associated to Facebook had nothing to do with me wanting to watch this film; the fact that it was relevant to this generation and had some respectable names in it along with Mr. Fincher directing was my main attraction. Very good film, solid performances all-round to go with a solid cast. 7/10 Kazed.

The Social Network (2010) Trailer

Now, despite what a lot of people may say about Facebook and it's ever-expanding success, it basically defines a generation. It has become a huge part of our culture, and it's something that is going to be remembered for a long time to come. This film is the chronicling of how it all began. The music in the trailer was the perfect choice for this, it suited everything exceptionally well.
Trailer courtesy of FirstShowing.net and YahooMovies.com.
It stars Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and it planned to be released October of this year.
The Social Network is directed by David Fincher of Se7en, Fight Club, The Game, Panic Room, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, previously.

Zombieland review

So I thought I'd catch this on an afternoon where I was free. yeah, Not sure what to make of it, it was definitely a fun, enjoyable movie, lacking of elements which I can't exactly put my finger on at this point, maybe a little down the review I will. Now this movie was definitely a good watch, and I absolutely loved the 'atmospheric conditions', if you will,  throughout the entire film. I guess what I mean is that the silence during the parts where Columbus was alone was a nice touch, granted it probably was silent, but it really added to the whole 'everyone is effing dead' thing. What was incredibly effective to me, was the use of the titles within the film itself, how they were implemented into the situations were pretty entertaining, and it worked, they weren't just placed in the scenes, they were put there for a purpose; to be at one with the scene and informing the audience. Well done Zombieland. Well done. The film was exciting, action in short, fulfilling blasts, and there's not much negative I can say about this other than it probably needed more story on Columbus and Wichita. In fact, all of them. Good film though, enjoyed it throughly. 8/10 Kazed
