Muni on TV: Party Down, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Party Down (season 1 & 2) The one thing I love about the Internet is that there’s so much on there, you’re bound to stumble upon stuff you wouldn’t necessarily stumble upon. One of those things is film and TV shows. Last month I was on IMDB doing my usual thing of strolling through countless pages of actors and actress and looking at what they’ve been in. That’s how I found this show and OH MY GOD thank god I did! The premise is pretty simple: a group of wannabe actors, writer and Henry who’s only claim to fame is having a catchphrase in an advert years ago, work for a catering company. Each episode follows the group to a different function and looks at their behaviour whilst they work. Apart from the boss they don’t really give a crap about their job and they never seem to put much effort in either. The cast is fantastic. Ken Marino, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch and Lizzy Caplan just to name a few. The cast works so well with each other and bounce off each other too, their chemistry is fantastic and really makes the show work. The writing on the show too is wonderful its just so funny and very well written, there aren’t a lot of criticisms I could give this show, but it’s so underrated and only a handful of people actually know about this show. So that’s why I want each and every one of you to give this show a go and watch it. Unfortunately after two seasons the show did get cancelled as a result of cast members moving on to different shows, so for what its worth I would say go and watch this if you’re a fan of comedy, fan of Paul Rudd as he’s one of the creators and overall just want to get into a show that’s truly fantastic. 9/10 Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia  (season 1 & 2) I got this show from a friend, and a couple of my friends at university recommended this show to me but kept putting it off as it didn’t appeal to me as I didn’t really know anyone in it. I was however pleasantly surprised by how awesome this show actually is. It has a wonderful ensemble and is very well written. The story’s pretty simple three friends own a bar in Philadelphia, Charlie, Mac, and Dennis as well as Dennis’s sister Di who works there too, and the mischief they get themselves into.  Each episode has a different story and it’s always something ridiculous and bizarre. The characters are very outlandish, stupid, and crazy and this mixed with the crazy situations they get themselves into is utterly funny. The second season introduces Dennis and Di’s father Frank played by Danny DeVito, and he brings a fresh approach to the comedy show.  There are 6 seasons so far and I’ve only gotten through 2 of them. The seventh season will be starting soon too in the US. I’m not sure if there’s any network in the UK showing this show, but there should be because this show is superb and excellent. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the seasons and see what the gang gets themselves into. I would again recommend this show and say it’s worth watching. At times the show does seem to get a little overly crazy but its worth watching it. 7/10

Toy Story 3 (2010) review

Synopsis: The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home. Eleven years after the last Toy Story outing, I would say that it was definitely worth the wait. Containing all the elements that made the past Disney/Pixar films a huge success, Toy Story 3 was a well-done, beautiful masterpiece that has joined the long line of films which have been both a financial and critical triumph. Onto the film. Toy Story 3 was equally as incredible as the previous two feats, but on another level; the story in this film is what made it that little bit more exciting. Toward the climax of the film, there was a moment where I foolishly thought it would abruptly end. How naive I was. Everything that took place in the film was extremely gripping, moving and I felt emotionally touched throughout, having grown up with the film. Although the previous plot involving Buzz Lightyear being recalled sounded more exciting, the new plot was still an exciting, and well-done replacement. The '3D' used in the film was adequate; very reminiscent of that used in the re-release of Toy Story back in January (Review HERE). Honestly, it wasn't required. It feels like the studios are literally slapping a '3D' label on anything to make that extra dollar(or pound, or whatever), and it really didn't work. There were some moments where you could really see the difference(Really just differences in depth of field), and some moments where it just wasn't needed at all. I couldn't help but notice the huge similarity between one of the characters in this film(no spoilers here) and 'The Prospector' from Toy Story 2. Wasn't a bad thing, just felt it needed to be pointed out. This, was a Pixar film, so it was difficult to pick out any flaws. If there were any, I didn't want to know. Toy Story 3 was well worth the 11-year wait, and whether they choose to make a sequel or not, I'll be happy watching the trilogy for years to come. 9.5/10 (Because nothing's perfect) Kazed

Inception (2010) review

Synopsis: In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea within one's mind can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset. What can I say, other than Inception is definitely unlike any other film I've ever seen. Some may have thought there were similarities with the 1999 sci-fi, The Matrix. Understandable that people are thinking this, seeing as both films involve the characters in the film delving into a universe where things aren't real. Moving on. What was interesting about Inception was that there wasn't one moment in the entire 148 minutes where I found myself waiting for something to happen. Every moment of the film was full of utterly engaging sequences, one noteworthy example that stood out from the film was the zero-gravity lobby scene. Everything about this scene was amazing, and didn't slow down at any point. The final 30 minutes or so were definitely the high points of Inception. The constant back-and-forth shots during this segment of the film were especially effective, providing an extra kick to the already fast-paced action that was taking place. Each of the cast members delivered memorable performances, especially Gordon-Levitt and DiCaprio. Both had their shining moments, but one that comes to mind is DiCaprio sitting on the window ledge witnessing a suicide; the sheer power and emotion he displayed was incredible. Inception was an experience like any other, Christopher Nolan has, once again, outdone himself. 8.5/10 Kazed

He's Just Not That Into You review

Synopsis:
Spoiler Inside SelectShow
I was insanely hesitant to watch this film, as it never occurred to me that romantic comedies can also be full of complexities and finely woven stories which intertwine with each other. He's Just Not That Into You was a film that was quite different to those rom-coms I've seen in the past. It wasn't just a simple guy-falls-in-love-with-girl-encounter-a-problem-then-get-back-together-story, it was much more than that. Considering the film was adapted from a self-help book of the same name, it made it even more interesting to see how such a book could be made into a film. So Gigi(Ginnifer Goodwin) is the girl who needs the help, funnily enough, and the events that unfold were ever so cringe-worthy, not because they were badly acted out(because they weren't), but because the things that she was doing were ever so hard to watch. It was precisely the scenes with Goodwin in I enjoyed the most because of her ability to portray such an awkward character. Justin Long playing Gigi's friend and confidant was a role which he fit in, up until a certain point I thought he was gay, reminiscent of Zack and Miri, but I was proved wrong later on. There were times within HJNTIY which were definitely clichéd and redundant, there were even instances where I said "I KNEW that would happen!", but no matter how many of these moments were in the film, there was always a counter-balance to these clichés, which eventually outweighed these negative factors. He's Just Not That Into You was a film that was, to some extent, a 'traditional' rom-com simply because of the predictability that seems to be present in a vast amount of romantic comedies these days, but nicely back-pedals due to some unique storytelling. Good film, interesting story with several sub-plots and twists, He's Just Not That Into You delivers an unexpected array of goodness in the form of a contemporary romantic comedy with a difference. 8/10 Kazed
