Kazed reviews Studio Ghibli series: Nausicaä of The Valley of The Wind

So I'll admit this - The only Ghibli film I've seen before this is The Cat Returns, and that was a brilliant piece of cinema. I see Ghibli as the Pixar as the 2D Animation world(if that makes sense?). I've been wanting to see these films for a long time now, and now I have my chance. This will be the first of the Studio Ghibli reviews, starting with Nausicaä of The Valley of The Wind, the 2005 re-release, with the English cast. Behind all of the lush fantasy forests and imaginative over-the-top insect creatures, was basically a 'save the planet' message. This would have usually bothered me, only it was done so brilliantly and subtly that I didn't really care. Wall-E, for example, portrayed the same kind of message, but again, it was done beautifully, and wasn't really shoved down our throats like that atrocity, The Happening. I mean, really, what WAS 'happening'??? Off track. There weren't any moments within this film when I felt it was cliched at all, it all felt natural, as weird as it sounds. I think what added to this natural 'aura', if you will, was the brilliant voice acting by Alison Lohman, who played the Princess of the Valley, 'Nausicaä'. The character suited the voice perfectly, something which is difficult to achieve when something is being translated to English from another language. The emotion that she conveyed through her voice was astounding, I really felt her pain when the insects were being lured by the baby. This wasn't the only scene, but one of many; just thought this was a notable one. Patrick Stewart, Shia LeBouf, Mark Hamill and Uma Thurman also lent a hand, voicing Lord Yupa, Asbel, Mayor of Pejite and Kushana, respectively. The cast was something to admire; like Lohman/Nausicaä, each of the cast members seemed to resonate with their animated counterparts, and this was another element added to what I feel made the film as brilliant as it was. So in staying with the new rating system: Performances: 8/10 Plot: 7/10 Visuals: 7/10 Dialogue: 8/10 Stupidity factor (The higher the score, the more stupid it was): 2/10 Overall (average): 8/10 Kazed

Muni reviews: Transformers: Dark of The Moon

First of all I just want to say that I’ve been a fan of the transformers franchise, and after the blip of the second film I was eagerly anticipating this film. After watching it tho I was left with emptiness inside of me and couldn’t really place my finger on what was missing. Was it the special effect, no that was one of the best work I’ve seen in a CGI filled film. It was however the poor acting of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, yes she’s cute, fit and every 14 year olds dream girl. Megan Fox are some pretty big shoes to fill, and looks wise she filled it but acting wise she was disappointing, and didn’t in my opinion really add anything significant for the franchise. The story was good, not great, it established the story and had a decent pace throughout the film. Again as it is marketed towards young teens obviously they wont see the flaws the more adult audience would see.  Marketing wise it hits the spot and obviously with the box office revenues it clearly shows.  But from a film fan point of view it missed its mark in making this a great film. Shia as usual has to carry most of the film and as a leading man does an admirable job. I’ve always been a fan and think he will turn into a leading man, which is evident in some of his other work. Finally the CGI animation itself is top notch, with the film being 80% animation of course it had to deliver and my god does it, it is fantastic, the attention to detail by the animators is amazing, a big thumbs up to them. Overall Michael Bay has done his usual job in creating a two hour film filled with the usual action romance drama and animation. I’ll say go watch it its good, good to see with your friends and definitely one to go watch with the kids. 6/10

Kazed reviews: Transformers: Dark of The Moon (2011)

WOW. To be honest, I was a little hesitant to watch Transformers, because, well, I wanted to watch Bridesmaids. Yeah, DON'T JUDGE ME. What I'm going to do today is something a little different, similar to what I did a while back with the High School Musical review, only it'll be a little shorter, and I won't be watching it at the same time, and also it'll be a little less comprehensive than the HSM review. When those credits rolled, I couldn't help but get angered at the thought that a third film was allowed to be made. DAMN YOU MICHAEL BAY. DAMN YOU TO HELL. There were a number of thoughts  going through my head, I'll bullet them below(in no particular order), but keep in mind that I'm merely pointing out the things that I thought were really stupid.

1. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a HORRIBLE addition to the film. Purely and simply because she could not act. Megan Fox had at least an ounce of talent in her *cough*, and she could act a slight better than this new girl.
2. Chemistry. There was none whatsoever between Shia LeBouf and Huntington-Whiteley's characters. Not only this, but there was no build-up for their relationship. One of the first scenes we see involves the two, and I had thought that Huntington-Whiteley(That's such a bitch to write) replaced Fox, but I soon learned that this was not the case. Slightly disappointed I was, when I heard her speak in an English accent.
3. Like in Revenge of The Fallen, there were many times when I honestly for the life of me couldn't tell what was going on. Like in Fallen, there were times when the fight sequences between the Autobots and Decepticons seemed like a complete mess. Now don't get me wrong, the visuals in Transformers 3 far surpassed that of it's predecessor, but it still wasn't as good as it could have been. The level of detail in this on the CGI was great. I have no qualms about that. It was just during some of the fast-paced action scenes when it was a little too weldy(I just made a word up) for my liking.
4. Now, I'm not too familiar with the older Transformers' series, but from what I gather about Megatron(You know, that evil robot guy who kills things), is that he wouldn't idly sit by if some British Battleaxe came and tried to meddle in his affairs. I'm almost certain that he would've killed her.
5. The stupid little black cuts in the first half of the film. I mean, once or twice is okay, acceptable, whatever. But when you start using it like it's the end of the world, then it looks a little stupid. Maybe it's just the filmmaker in me, but that really got on my nerves.
6. The small inconsistencies(I won't mention here because I'll be ruining the story) which really annoyed me as to how abruptly things 'ended'(if you catch my drift, those of you who have seen it), and how there were so many coincidences in the film which didn't lead to some much needed deaths.

I have a lot more, but it's now kinda late and I'm tired. I'm satisfied that I got some of it out, but I guess that's my quasi-review/rant of Transformers 3. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) teaser & EXCLUSIVE clips/images

Check these out, a sequel to the 1987 film Wall Street, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. It could be a huge disappointment, I'm not liking some of the elements thrown into the mix, like Gekko's Daughter, LeBouf marrying her etc. Let's hope Douglas stelas the show.
