Kazed reviews: Mean girls...2!?! (2011)

Oh. MY.GOD. First of all, there is no point in writing a synopsis. Really. There isn't. The plot of Mean Girls 2 is more or less the same as Mean Girls. But, for the benefit of the people who haven't seen Mean Girls, here it is: Cady Heron is a hit with The Plastics, the A-list girl clique at her new school, until she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George. Although the plot in Mean Girls 2 is a tad different, the essence of MG still remains. Oh, but NOT in a good way. The entire film is a HUGE pile of crap. It's predictable, cheesy, clichéd, predictable, lame, corny, unoriginal, predictable and the 'Plastics' in MG2 are WAY below standard. If you dare watch it, you'll see how similar to the first it is, you'll find a hot banana, and stab yourself with it. Tim Meadows reprises his role as Mr Duvall, probably the only interesting thing about the film. I wouldn't have minded it so much if the film was DIFFERENT from the first, but seeing as though it isn't, it shouldn't even exist. Why it was even allowed to air is the atrocity. I'm not sure what else to say about it. The people turning on the protagonist, the people forgiving the protagonist, the protagonist getting a happy ending, the antagonist ultimately 'losing' in the end, come on...that's Mean Girls all over. I think it's worth mentioning here that I only got 1 hour into this film and I wanted to kill myself. I couldn't even finish it. But I did, while writing this review. I'm too nice. Blegh. JUST BLEGH. 2/10 Kazed.

A-Team (2010) review

The A-Team: Party Like It’s 1983

★★

Jessica Lohse

Of the many rehashed 80’s films making a comeback this latter part of the decade, The (much-vaunted) A-Team is resuscitated; but is it the Second Coming or an unholy, shambling thing due for a double-tap? Filmmaker Joe Carnahan of epic Oscar-winning fame for such titles as -nothing, attempts to hook younger audiences into the cult series. The A-Team merch van rolls into Forbidden Planet hopefully plugging the $100 million hole it left in its wake. It begs the question: ‘How much of that money went to paying Liam Neeson to say “I love it when a plan comes together” 10 times?’ The DVD set of the old skool A-Team was a hit seller; but does that provide enough justification to make a film dominated by absurdly annoying Bradley Cooper? For some inexplicable reason he gets to skulk in for far more screen time than he deserves in the role where he doesn’t quite hit the mark as everyone’s favourite lovable rogue? Let’s Face it, they could do better. Of course, since the rumormill began running the Chinese Whispers game of an A-Team film, people have begun mentally building their own brand of dream cast to compare to the actual selections in the film itself. I have no idea who these actors are, but I think it’s safe to say Joe Carnahan might consider using a fan of the series for Casting Director if he ever gets the opportunity to excrete a sequel. In that regard, we can only hope there is no plan B. This reminds one of the time X-Men 3: The Last Stand nearly won director Gavin Hood the honorific of being the man responsible for turning Hollywood into the next Lynchburg for the scores of angry fans clamouring for blood. This leads to my parting thoughts on The A-Team: You can’t please the all fans, but you can at least try to make an entertaining (and hopefully average) film.

Toy Story 3 (2010) review

Synopsis: The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home. Eleven years after the last Toy Story outing, I would say that it was definitely worth the wait. Containing all the elements that made the past Disney/Pixar films a huge success, Toy Story 3 was a well-done, beautiful masterpiece that has joined the long line of films which have been both a financial and critical triumph. Onto the film. Toy Story 3 was equally as incredible as the previous two feats, but on another level; the story in this film is what made it that little bit more exciting. Toward the climax of the film, there was a moment where I foolishly thought it would abruptly end. How naive I was. Everything that took place in the film was extremely gripping, moving and I felt emotionally touched throughout, having grown up with the film. Although the previous plot involving Buzz Lightyear being recalled sounded more exciting, the new plot was still an exciting, and well-done replacement. The '3D' used in the film was adequate; very reminiscent of that used in the re-release of Toy Story back in January (Review HERE). Honestly, it wasn't required. It feels like the studios are literally slapping a '3D' label on anything to make that extra dollar(or pound, or whatever), and it really didn't work. There were some moments where you could really see the difference(Really just differences in depth of field), and some moments where it just wasn't needed at all. I couldn't help but notice the huge similarity between one of the characters in this film(no spoilers here) and 'The Prospector' from Toy Story 2. Wasn't a bad thing, just felt it needed to be pointed out. This, was a Pixar film, so it was difficult to pick out any flaws. If there were any, I didn't want to know. Toy Story 3 was well worth the 11-year wait, and whether they choose to make a sequel or not, I'll be happy watching the trilogy for years to come. 9.5/10 (Because nothing's perfect) Kazed
