Eat, Pray, Love(2010) review

Eat Pray Love - Review Director: Ryan Murphy Synopsis A married woman realizes how unhappy her marriage really is, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself". I didn’t really hear much about this film before I went to watch it. I had seen a couple of billboards in the streets and thought I’d give it a watch. The film it self is a 2 hour 15 min of seeing Julia Roberts going through every conceivable emotion imaginable, trust me that’s a lot! I had not read the book which it (and most film now) was based on, so found it hard to watch the character of James Franco, which I personally found cringe worthy. Billy Crudup and Javier Bardem, were decent and nothing more then eye candy for the women. Ryan Murphy’s direction through out the film is very student like, you can tell he was experimenting a lot with different angles and some unconventional shots, to his credit some of it did work. A plus of the film was the cinematography; there are some beautiful visual images of Italy, India and Bali, as well as America itself. As well as that the character of Richard Jenkins was powerful and moving and was interesting to see him in a unique role which did steal the scene between him and Julia Roberts. Overall I would say that this was a distinctive trial by the director, in which he will learn a lot of what not to do next time. The mismatch of actors and story crammed into 2 and bit hours, clearly indicates that turning books into films is still a long way away from becoming a successful transition. 6/10 – being generous Muni

Precious: Based on the novel "Push"by Sapphire

Precious, based on the novel "Push" - written by Sapphire - is the brutal, yet inspiring story of Clareece Precious Jones. Sixteen-year-old Precious is poor, illiterate and the victim of incest, giving birth to two children by her father. Tired of being a victim, Precious decides that education is the only way to a better life.

Ok first off, I'll say this- At first glance, this seemed like a complete and utter cliché, but going deeper into the trailer it's completely obvious it isn't. IMO, this movie looks downright amazing, and the girl who plays Clareece "Precious" Jones (Gabby Sidibe) can really convey emotion. Seriously, looks great, but then in saying that, it can just bomb horrifically and no one will EVER speak of it again. Gahh, it has Mariah Carey without makeup, so it HAS to be good for her to do that...She can act, right??

Precious Stars Mo'Nique, Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey, and Gabby Sidibe.

Surrogates Review

406330530_UEUiP-O From the outset, Surrogates had impressed me. Getting us up to speed about what happened over the past decade or so, then jumps into present day. Now I appreciated the history, that eliminated the "what the hell is going on??" and "who the hell is this?!" factors, so that's always a plus. So this is it basically- people, who have robots-Surrogates, which are operated by the Human counterpart. Somebody kills a Surrogate, everybody freaks out, blah blah. So, the concept has very striking similarities to The Matrix, except in this movie they're in the real world. And they can't jump as high as- No..Wait..They can. I did love the super-airbrushed Surrogates, as obvious as this statement may sound to those who have seen it, I thought this was such a nice touch, and it was really cool to see the comparison of it and a Human. I sat there, noticing all these small things- The Surrogates' severely toned down emotion, the lack of hand gestures, just they were all so..lifeless. Ultimately, that seemed to be the whole point here, not to let these robots take over your lives, but these people all had gotten consumed by this..this 'addiction', if you will, and all of the counterparts of the Surrogates were all un-maintained, and just really in bad condition. Except for Willis..Who seemed to be in near-perfect condition..he wasn't really much different to his Surrogate, or 'Surry'. Admittedly, alot of the film was entirely predictable, but the main 'twist' was utterly foreseeable. Despite this, I still enjoyed 90% of this film, I thought it was a clever idea, can't say much for the plot which seemed to go in different directions alot of the time, but the idea, the concept, was good. The main problem, like I said, was the predictability. The finale was...just...blah. It was just all so PREDICTABLE. It seemed to turn into this positive message, how technology is evil, and you shouldn't allow yourself to be consumed by it. Just like everything else in the  world. Overall, a good movie, enjoyed it alot, apart from the parts where I knew what was gonna happen. 7/10. No no, 6.5/10. Kazed
