Toy Story 3 (2010) review

Synopsis: The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home. Eleven years after the last Toy Story outing, I would say that it was definitely worth the wait. Containing all the elements that made the past Disney/Pixar films a huge success, Toy Story 3 was a well-done, beautiful masterpiece that has joined the long line of films which have been both a financial and critical triumph. Onto the film. Toy Story 3 was equally as incredible as the previous two feats, but on another level; the story in this film is what made it that little bit more exciting. Toward the climax of the film, there was a moment where I foolishly thought it would abruptly end. How naive I was. Everything that took place in the film was extremely gripping, moving and I felt emotionally touched throughout, having grown up with the film. Although the previous plot involving Buzz Lightyear being recalled sounded more exciting, the new plot was still an exciting, and well-done replacement. The '3D' used in the film was adequate; very reminiscent of that used in the re-release of Toy Story back in January (Review HERE). Honestly, it wasn't required. It feels like the studios are literally slapping a '3D' label on anything to make that extra dollar(or pound, or whatever), and it really didn't work. There were some moments where you could really see the difference(Really just differences in depth of field), and some moments where it just wasn't needed at all. I couldn't help but notice the huge similarity between one of the characters in this film(no spoilers here) and 'The Prospector' from Toy Story 2. Wasn't a bad thing, just felt it needed to be pointed out. This, was a Pixar film, so it was difficult to pick out any flaws. If there were any, I didn't want to know. Toy Story 3 was well worth the 11-year wait, and whether they choose to make a sequel or not, I'll be happy watching the trilogy for years to come. 9.5/10 (Because nothing's perfect) Kazed

The Blindside review

Synopsis: A poor, oversized and under-educated teenager is recruited by a major college football program where he is groomed into an athletically and academically successful NFL prospect. I vaguely knew the outline of the plot of this film upon watching, so I had a slight idea what I was getting myself into. That's not to say it wasn't a bad film, I just felt it lacked the elements to make it a 'Best Picture' Academy Award Nominee. Quinton Aaron (playing the lead role as Michael 'Big Mike' Oher), delivered his performance quite weakly, to be honest. Certain scenes were just atrocious, it seemed as though Aaron acted better when he didn't speak. When he did, it was monotonous, and 98% of the time I didn't sense any kind of emotion in his voice(or in his expression, for that matter). Sandra Bullock(playing the part of Leigh Anne Tuohy) was by far the best performer in this film. The scene which captivated me for the first time in this film was the scene where she meets 'Big Mike' on the side of the road. I hadn't realised how well Bullock could emote. It was the character she portrayed that further solidified her performance, and most definitely overshadowed her co-star, Quinton Aaron. Having such strong performances from both Bullock and Kathy Bates(Playing Michael's tutor Miss Sue), one would hope for an equally strong film. The first half of the film was by far the strongest; then once the film hit the halfway mark, it took an awkward turn. There were far too many clichéd moments(for instance the scene where some of the league coaches visit the practice, they decide to call someone.  Not sure who, but why not do it at the same time? Why not?), and for a story that was supposedly based on a true story, it felt far too fabricated, a little tainted by Hollywood's over-the-top storytelling. Not necessarily a bad thing in all cases, but on this instance it just didn't work. Ignoring some of the bad acting and the other negatives, The Blindside was an interesting film, but didn't feel it was Oscar worthy. Obviously, others felt different, but I suppose this is where the opinion comes in. Sandra Bullock was most definitely the highlight of the film for me, such a great all-round actress, never ceases to impress. 6/10 Kazed

Edward Norton in Leaves of Grass

I'm a big fan of Edward Norton, and a huge fan of Indies, and this one looks like such an intriguing concept; Norton in two roles, playing his twin. So it may not be the most original idea, but the plot seems like it could definitely sell some tickets. With names such as Susan Sarandon and Keri Russell, how can it not be an interesting watch? 'Brand New' Alice in Wonderland Trailer

Alice in Wonderland - Extended Trailer Oh yeah, just the same as when it was released not long ago. I'm really excited about this, I used to love Alice in Wonderland as a child, and this doesn't seem half assed, with Tim Burton on board, theres NO chance it will be. Kazed.
